The Portuguese Chess Federation (FPX) organizes the third edition of the Open de Portugal - City of Lisbon Rapid Tournament.

 The tournament will be played on 10 February as a 8-round Swiss-System and shall be valid for the National Rapid Circuito 2018-2019.

1) Venue and schedule

 The event will be held at the Sports Complex of the Casal Vistoso, Rua João da Silva, 1900-098 Lisboa

2. Playing system

The tournament shall be played as a 8-round Swiss System, using the SwissManager program. According to the number of players, the first rounds may use accelerated pairings, or the number of rounds may be adjusted. Each player

shall have 15 minutos plus 5 second per move, starting the first move. The tournament shall be submited for FIDE Rapid ELO rating.

A player shall be excluded after two forfeits


3. Tie-breaks

The following criteria shall be applied if two players finish with the same number of points.:

  1. Direct encounter [11];
  2. Buchholz without worst result [37] (1,0,N,N,0,N);
  3. Buchholz [37] (0,0,N,N,0,N);
  4. Sonneborn-Berger [52] (0,0,N,N,0,N,N);
  5. Most victories [68];
  6. Most games as black [53];
  7. Random draw


4. Entries

Players affiliated to the Portuguese Chess Federation shall send their entry through their clubs, using the FPX platform. Other players shall send their entries to Este endereço de email está protegido contra piratas. Necessita ativar o JavaScript para o visualizar.     No entries shall be accepted after the maximum capacity of the playing venue is reached. The organization reserves the right to reject entries.Foreign players without FIDE ID should contact their home federation or the organization for attribution of such ID.

The entry fee for Open de Portugal - City of Lisbon 2019, as below, shall be paid to the following bank account:  PT 50 0035 0281 00009547 830 13

Each player shall recieve a single prize.

(*) for this prize the FIDE rapid ELO is used; for players with standard ELO but no rapid ELO, the standard ELO is valid.


The chief arbiter and his/her deputies shall be announced soon.


The President and members of the Appeal Commitee shall be announced before the tournament start.


Appeals against decisions by the Chief Arbitrer shall be submited in writing to the President of the Appeal Comittee within one hour after the round finishes.With the appeal shall be delivered to the President of the Appeal Comittee a bond of €100, which shall be returned if the appeal is accepted. Bonds for rejected appeals revert to the Portuguese Chess Federation. All decisions of the Appeal Comittee are final.



 The organization provides lodgement options for the period 2 to 10 February 2019.

     10. FINAL

All participants accept fully this regulations, and authorize the organization to use the stricly necessary personal data, as well as photos and videos where they may appear, for the management of tournament and its divulgation on the Internet and press.

The FIDE and FPX regulations shall apply to all cases not mentioned in this regulation. The Tournament Director shall use its best judgement for all cases that may persist.
